The Big Bed

So for a week and a half now, Nathan has been sleeping in his big bed. The whole transition was quite smooth I must say. It was however the first transition that made me a little teary...the whole "he's not a baby anymore and he's getting so big" tears. It's not at all that I still want him to be a baby (because I don't), it's just the almost 2 years have flown by and he's becoming more of a little boy every day.

Anyway off the mushy, because Nathan did awesome! We went for the bed at night at first because we figured he'd be more tired and Phillip was here to coach him up. At first, he thought we were just playing fake night-night and was laughing and waiting for Dad to come back in, but Phillip went back in settled him down and he seemed to get it. We'd been talking it up all day about how tonight was the night for the big bed and he was excited.

We also made up a song to the tune of the old show COPS theme song. It goes like this:
Big bed big bed
Whatcha gonna do?
Whatcha gonna do when I sleep on you?
(Repeat until you and your toddler have had enough)

This song is also accompanied by a squat dance move that Nathan made up. And he now requests the "Big bed" song on a whim.

He hasn't tried to escape the bed yet. I'm sure that he will at some point, but hopefully down the road when he's a little older and I'm less concerned about immediate safety hazards. One night he slept with his head under the pillow. Yes under the pillow for a significant portion of the night. When asked about it in the morning, he just laughed and kept saying "under" exuberantly.

Here's some photos of the big man:

All strrrrrrrrrrrreeeettttccchhhed out!

Oh how rested I feel!
Happy sleeping Nathan!

In case you are wondering, we had to put the bumper barrier up on the daybed because he slid through the bars one day and got stuck. No crying, but a look of "uh-oh what have I done?" So the bumper keeps him happily unstuck. And we've got the rail on the outside edge because he's a mover.

Nathan - Miss D can't wait to see you in your big boy bed. We will read a book when I get there on Friday.
Love you, Miss D
