Paul & His Fruit

I made a delightful new shopping discovery a few days ago. It is called Paul's Fruit Market and I thoroughly enjoyed my time there. It reminds me a lot of the little roadside markets on the way to Carmel in CA, but I think Paul's has a few more things to offer. Naturally they have fresh fruit and veggies, but they also have a deli area where you can get meat and they also prepare sandwiches and salads to-go. And to Granny and Papaw's delight, they have quite an extensive nursery outside with lots of flowering plants and bushes. You can't walk into Paul's without a little pep in your step from looking at the pretty flowers. Lastly, they have a great little snacks section filled with dried fruit, nuts, and healthy things all right there in easy to handle portions - I love this part the most about Paul's! I have been having nice, healthy afternoon snacks and I have even convinced Phillip to eat a few of these good-for-you treats. So, today I salute you Mr. Paul of Paul's Fruit Market for being a fun and enjoyable place to shop for things edible.

When it rains...

Well they say when it rains...it pours and I think you can safely say it has poured on us recently...

It all started Thursday night, when after a busy day at work, Phillip & I decided to grab some Burger King for dinner. As we were getting out of the car, we noticed our right front tire was looking pretty flat and the culprit was a large screw stuck in the tire. Great. We gobbled up our BK and stopped by the Chevron to give it some air to make it home.

Now, because we only have one car here I needed a way to get to work in the morning while Phillip was going to get the tire fixed. Our friends the Dockerys were gracious enough to bring over their car for me to drive the next day to work. So we had our plan all set and went to bed feeling a little better.

I got up in the morning and headed to work in the Dockery-mobile. I had almost arrived at my destination when a lady pulls up beside me and declares that my back right tire is flat. What?! A flat tire on the Dockery-mobile? Oh yes it is true. I pulled into the parking lot at work to discover that the tire was indeed flat. I called Phillip to let him know the situation and to check on his progress at Wal-Mart getting our screw infested tire fixed. Now's where it gets interesting...

He tells me that he got the screw-tire fixed and was pulling out of the store, but before he got too far he decided to take a look at the car to make sure everything was up to par. When he got out he noticed that the screw-tire looked good, but much to his surprise he noticed a NAIL in the back right tire! We'd been screwed and nailed all in the same day! So he promptly pulled back into the Wal-Mart automotive department for Round 2 at the tire repair station.

Well, he came home with 2 fixed tires and he aired up the Dockery-mobile tire and it seemed to be holding well so we were thinking we were in the clear. I got home from work about 6:10 and we were resting and recuperating from our long day. It had been pretty overcast all day and it actually started raining quite hard while we were sitting on the couch. As we were talking, Phillip felt a water drop and we looked up to discover that our roof had sprung a leak! We grabbed a bowl to catch the water and looked at each other and decided that when it rains...it DEFINITELY pours!

We're Not Lackadaisical

Well it's been a long time...and according to other family members (namely ones in Indonesia) we are becoming lackadaisical in our blogging so here's a few things we've been up to since we last blogged...

1) Travel to and from TX for the Dockery wedding...click here for a link to their slideshow. It's super cute! Also in TX, we helped C&C and K&L settle into their new houses...what family do you know that has two siblings moving at the same time in the same city?! Only the Bethancourts...

2) The Kentucky Derby is this weekend so dresses, hats, and purses have been flying off the shelf at work...

3) Phillip is getting ready to finish up with finals/papers next week. I now enjoy going to sleep by the light of the Dell and to the steady click-clack of typing fingers...

**Announcement! Because Phillip may not tell you himself, he was recently nominated then elected by his peers to serve as the Ministry Coordinator for the School of Theology next year. I don't know what all he will do, but he will probably be doing a lot of coordinating of ministry-ha!

4) One major breakthrough in my grocery store world has been the fact that Ranch Style Beans have come to the Dirty Kroger! Oh joyous day! No more Frito Pie with Bush's Chili Beans which are a cheap imitation. We now have several of those little black cans in the pantry. I was even asked by the check-out guy at Kroger about Ranch Style Beans and I think I was able to convince him that they are far superior to any other canned bean around.

5) Last but not least, we've been recently listening to a new CD we aquired from our friends The Coppengers, who knew that we would love just such a CD. It's called Deep in the Heart of Texas: Favorite Songs of the Lone Star State. It's all songs about Texas, but they are all instrumental versions. It is awesome.

Alright, that's all for now...Goodnight!
